Eyelift without surgery

In a separate article, we have discussed a nonsurgical nose reshaping procedure. The reason for the popularity of non-surgical procedures is that many patients want to improve their appearance but are afraid of anesthesia and possibility of scars. Therefore, it was only a matter of time that a non-surgical procedure for eyelift became available.

The conventional eyelift surgery involves removal of fat and excess skin from upper and lower eyelids. While this procedure gives longer-lasting results, it is a complex procedures. It takes 1-3 hours to complete and since the eye is such a delicate organ of the body, the risk is high. And as everyone knows, the cost of a procedure is determined by the duration of the surgery and the risk involved. But there are other issues with conventional eyelift surgery. The recovery time is about a week or more and during this time, you can’t get much done.

Facial plastic surgeon L. Mike Nayak at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, however, is using the same process that is being used for rhinoplasty. He is using dermal fillers to fill in the “valley” beneath the “mountain” of an under eye bag. The non-surgical eyelift is aimed at people who have only a somewhat increased amount of fat underneath the eye. The best candidates for this are younger patients.

Doctors can use several different types of fillers. Some products last three months, others can last up to a year or more. The procedure is done with a topical numbing cream and takes only minutes to perform. Patients can return to work the same day, although there may be some redness and swelling.

So who said plastic surgery is about knives and blood? It might as well be as much fun as a trip to the day spa!
