Breast augmentation decisions for flat chested women

Sammy in Sedona, Arizona, writes, “I know you hear this a lot but I am 16 and flat-chested while both my mother and sister are rather large. If I end up flat when I am 20 I know I should just get breast implants but I wanted to know if I could change my size to some extent now. When my sister was my age, she was a B cup, but she weighed much more than me. I am underweight, not because I want to be; it’s just happened over time. I think maybe that’s what has stopped my breast growth. I eat rather healthy and enjoy foods high in calories but still healthy, like oatmeal. If I get myself to a more healthy weight instead of my 93 pounds, will it help increase my breast size?”

You did not indicate your height, but yes, my guess is that 93 pounds weight is at the low end for a 16-year old. Now we typically do not recommend that women put on weight to increase their breast size (and you are smart enough not doing so) because there is no certainty that the weight would end up on the chest. There are a lot of flat-chested, obese women out there.

I would say that if you eat healthy and gain weight gradually with regular exercise, you may see an improvement in your cup size. In any case you are still growing and have at least 1-3 years to fully develop. At that point you can meet with a plastic surgeon and consider your breast augmentation options.
