But if you were thinking of getting it done, don't rely on the IRS to help you take a tax break for it. In the opinion of the IRS, it is still a cosmetic surgery though all candidates for this surgery disagree.
IRS' Office of Chief Counsel told the appeals tribunal in a recent case that gender reassignment is not necessary surgery, and therefore, cannot be deducted as a medical expense for tax purposes. What do you think?
