Gastric bypass surgery for dealing with obesity

Postby want2bfit » Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:20 am

I have always read that plastic surgery should not be used as a solution for obesity. But I hear that gastric bypass surgery or bariatric surgery may be used if your doctor thinks that you have no choice and may have real issues to deal with if you do not lose weight.

Now a report comes out that senior citizens are having gastric bypass surgery and seeing good results. I hear that it is because the health insurance companies find that this is a cheaper solution than paying for the resulting illnesses like diabetes, heart complications, etc. What do you think?

Al Roker gains his weight back after gastric bypass

What you may also want to consider is that even gastric bypass surgery requires lifestyle changes. Yes, you will lose a lot of weight pretty quickly but unless you change the way you eat and live, you are still in trouble.

Take a look at NBC weather forecaster Al Roker, who lost about a 100 lbs after his weight loss surgery. Yesterday I saw him on TV saying that he has gained 30 lbs and his new year goal for 2006 is to lose 20 lbs.

So while Medicare may cover gastric bypass now but that does not mean you should not think of other options for weight loss.

Hi, till date I think the gastric bypass surgery is the most effective weapon to eradicate the problem of morbid obesity, now if the people who have undergone this method do not realize the importance and the need to maintain an adequate lifestyle following this, who is to be blamed certainly not the surgical procedure. Anyways if this is the case then I am quite sure any other forms of weight losing methods would also bear the same results to these people.

Hi, whenever I heard about surgery I always felt that this a very complex thing and is undergone by people who have serious health conditions, but little did I know that this is also a process that is used for the people who are not only obese but the obesity is greatly heightened, that the soccer legend Maradona has also undergone this form of surgery. Really surgeries are not that serious after all.

Carnie Wilson also had gastric bypass surgery

Like Star Jones Reynolds, I did not know that Carnie Wilson too had gastric bypass. Then she lost 150 lbs and had to have more surgery for taking out the extra skin: tummy tuck and breast lift.
