Breast augmentation procedure
New technique with minimal scarring

In any plastic surgery procedure, one of the major concerns that patients have is the
scarring. In fact, we have heard from patients who decided not to have a procedure because of the scars, particularly if
these are in a visible area. In the case of a
breast augmentation procedure this is even more important. Doctors have tried to do something about it. For instance,
Dr. Robert Rey of Dr. 90210 fame has a technique that is very popular among his patients. You do get some scarring but not where you fear it most.
But a new procedure, known by a rather technical name PEBAM (Percutaneous, Endoscopic, Bilateral, Augmentation,
Mammaplasty) developed by Michigan based plastic surgeon Dr. Ayoub Sayeg goes even one step further. He has merged
endoscopy
and minimally invasive surgery to redefine the entire procedure, leaving the patient with virtually minimal scars. The procedure involves making a mini-incision and creating and molding a pocket, into which he inserts a deflated
saline breast
implant. The desired amount of saline is inflated into the implant through tiny tubes.

After the filling is complete and the tubes removed, Dr. Sayeg closes the incision, which is done with an absorbable suture. Following closure of the incision, drains are not needed, and healing progresses quickly. The resultant scar is normally less than one centimeter (less than half an inch) in length, which heals very well, and with the additional therapy of a silicone-based covering, is virtually unnoticeable.
