While plastic surgery procedures provide the best
results in most cases, for many patients, going under the knife may not be the best choice. This could be either due to the high
cost of
surgery, or fear of undergoing surgery, or having scars after recovery. No wonder then that surgeons are coming up with ways to provide
plastic-surgery like results without the surgery.
Rhinoplasty (or nose job) is a very popular procedure but like any other procedure, it has its own set of risks and challenges - scars, breathing difficulties, and
poorer-than-expected results (in some cases). Dr. Alexander Rivkin, a Los Angeles based facial plastic surgeon has developed the
Non Surgical Nose Job - a new procedure that is giving patients a minimally invasive alternative to
traditional rhinoplasty. His technique involves the use of
injectables such as
Restylane or
Radiesse to camouflage nasal deformities such as humps, drooping tips or sideways deviations of the top of the nose.
Such a procedure involves literally no pain, no bruising, no swelling and you can see the results almost immediately. The procedure is performed in the
surgeon's office and takes less than an hour - perfect during a lunchtime break. Unlike
anesthesia that is part of most plastic surgery
procedures, the surgeon in this case simply applies a numbing cream. A small amount of a filler material (Restylane or
Radiance - according to the patient's preference) is then carefully injected into very precise locations on the top of the nose. Injection Rhinoplasty can fill in depressions anywhere on the nose, smooth out sharp angles or change the angle of the tip of the nose. Although the procedure cannot reduce the size of a large nose, it will restore symmetry to the nose. A symmetric nose blends in to the rest of the face and actually appears smaller.
